Neumarkt is a lively city with numerous sport and leisure activities available. The fully restored Ludwig Canal, which is more than 160 years old, is one of the main landmarks of Neumarkt and the administrative district. Neumarkt is located at the border of the Oberpfalz Jura, which is marked by 5 iconic mountains. Going on day trips and exploring the area gives hikers the opportunity to enjoy the enticing interplay of soft hilltops, serene streams and rough chalk cliffs. Follow along romantic pastures and the Lengenbach stream, the Lauterach, the Sulz and the Laaber.
The outdoor water park offers a wild stream as well as water massages and an exciting slide. The swimming pool, the adventure pool and the children’s area offer lots of opportunity to swim and have fun between May and September. If you go play tennis or squash in Neumarkt, you will can cool down and relax at the outdoor swimming center. In October 2019, the first part of the new swimming center that will be open throughout the year, the Neumarkter Schlossbad, will be finished.
The premises of 1998’s Landesgartenschau in Neumarkt is still in an excellent condition. In addition to the exhibition and communication center in the tower of the former sewage plant, a neighborhood meeting place has been established on the grounds of the round basin. All around there are lovely water gardens and the wonderful park with its creative fragrant herbal gardens.

The Rossmarkt (horse market) is a traditional event that dates back centuries. It has always been and still is a huge attraction. The proud horses, some of which are pulling lovely carriages, are led through the historic city and past its Medieval buildings. Lots of people watch and marvel at the wonderful show.

The Jura-Linie from Velburg to Regensburg is the most attractive of the 4 hiking trails between the river Main and the Danube when it comes to the landscape. The Camino de Santiago between Prague and Rothenburg also leads past us. The Falkenweg offers beautiful view along the Albtrauf.
Cross-country skiing is very famous in the administrative district of Neumarkt. There are 6 excellent routs available in winter. You can choose which one of these great routs best suits your style – nordic or classic. Thanks to our altitude of 400 to 600 meters, there is usually fresh snow.
